Based in North Vancouver, Toby was fortunate to have been brought up in a skiing family and as such, skiing has been his life for as long as he can remember. That said, he can’t remember who suggested he become an instructor but when he turned 16, Toby and a bunch of friends from high school took the CSIA Level 1 course. Some passed and some didn’t, but two went on to share their passion for many years to come. At first Toby didn’t fully grasp what the CSIA and a life as an instructor could offer. But he couldn’t think of a better way to spend his time than skiing and showing others this amazing sport. "It’s such a thrill to see that fire ignite within people trying it for the first time or taking their skiing down a path they maybe didn’t know existed."
Over time, Toby began to realize that the CSIA provided so much more than just guest experience, teaching methodology and skill development. It truly provides a framework for how to be an effective leader in anything you do. He feels grateful to have been given the opportunity, through the CSIA, to learn from some of the very best. This motivates him to always be his best. Today Toby manages the Grouse Mountain Snow School. He has reached a point in his career where he fully appreciates the value the CSIA has added to his way of life. Now Toby humbly seeks the opportunity to give back as a member of the CSIA BC board of directors.
